Discover the Secret Ingredient to Healthy Skin

Discover the Secret Ingredient to Healthy Skin

Everyone wants to discover the quickest and easiest way to making their skin look great. That’s why there are hundreds of skincare solutions on the market. These skincare products target everything from extremely dry skin to excessively oily skin, and from sensitive skin to nothing bothers the skin.

There are even more articles online, in magazines, and in books that deal with how to take care of your skin. There’s the basic routine, the four-step routine, the advance routine, the damaged skin routine, the skin care method, the best skin care products and so on.

But none of that beats the simple, old fashion secret for healthy skin. It doesn’t matter which toner you use, the type of makeup you lavish on your face, or the night serum you use. If you don’t hydrate your body with water, nothing will make your skin look and feel its best.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is the best thing you can do for your skin. It’s free and in abundant supply. Yet, it’s the one thing most people don’t do, including myself. I literally have to remind myself to drink water.

Being transparent with you, it doesn’t always go too well for me. I barely drink anything, but when I do it’s herbal teas or juice. Trust me, that is not good for you. If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t drink as much water as you should either. Maybe you drink more soda or coffee. If you do, then you’re in the same boat I’m in.

Lack of Water Symptoms

It’s called the dehydration boat. You might not think so. I guarantee you; you are there. Maybe you don’t recognize the symptoms. The first and main symptom is thirst. If you’ve ever felt thirsty, your body is already experiencing dehydration. This means there is not enough water in your system to do what it needs to do for your body.

Some other symptoms are dry skin, itchy skin, fine lines being more noticeable, skin looks dull, dark under-eye circles, complexion appears uneven, slight headache, dizziness, dry or sticky mouth, muscle cramps, lack of energy, and rapid heartbeat.

What is water good for?

Adult bodies are made up of almost 60% of water. Water helps every part of your body, not just your skin. It helps with the following:

  • Nourishes every cell in the body
  • Improves skin tone
  • Prevents premature aging
  • Prevents acne
  • Reduces puffiness
  • Balance the body’s pH levels
  • Assists in flushing toxins out of the body through urine
  • Aids in digestion
  • Metabolize food and transport it in the bloodstream
  • Keeps the body from overheating
  • Lubricate joints
  • Delivers oxygen throughout the body

How to get more water into your body?

Chugging down at least 64 oz of water every day can get boring. So, what’s a girl to do? Get creative, that’s what.

1. Eat more foods with a high-water content

To start with you can eat more foods with a high-water content. Cucumbers, oranges, soups, broths, coconut water, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, lettuce, zucchini, celery, bell pepper, cauliflower, cabbage, grapefruit, kale, apples, and many more fruits and vegetables.

As you can see from the list you have a variety of foods you can eat daily to get more water into your system. You can combine several of the above and make a great salad or just eat them alone.

2. Use water-base lotions

Most lotions’ first ingredient is water. They are supposed to seal in the moisture and prevent the skin from drying up. Some brands do a better job than others. You have test them out to see what works best for your skin.

The best time to put lotion on is right after a shower or bath. Pat your body down gently, leaving the skin a little damp. Then add lotion.

3. Make water taste better

Adding fresh herbs and fruits not only makes your water taste better, but it can offer some healthy skin benefits.

Flavor your water with herbs

With fresh herb leaves you can simmer a few leaves in water and let it cool. Or you can crush the leaves up and let it sit in the water for a few hours. I find the best method is simmering the leaves. You can use any kind of herb you like, such as lavender, peppermint, spearmint, thyme, lemongrass, or chamomile.

  • Mint helps with digestion, which takes the work load off your skin to detox.
  • Basil helps prevent inflammation. It also protects your skin from damage.
  • Rosemary helps with memory, inflammation, and mood.

Flavor your water with fruits

Just slice the fruit up and let it sit in water for a few hours. You can use any kind of fruit you like, such as watermelon, mangoes, strawberries, or cucumbers (yes, it’s a fruit). Here are three fruits with their benefits.

  • Lemons help your body remove toxins and contains a high amount of vitamin C.
  • Oranges protect the cells from damage and help the body make collagen.
  • Grapefruits are high in powerful antioxidants, which protect your cells from free radicals.

Remember, if you’re thirsty you are already dehydrated, which can damage your skin and cause a host of other problems. To fix this, it’s as simple as drinking more water. Three ways to get more water into your body is by eating more water-rich foods, use water-based lotions, and flavor your water with herbs and fruits.

Here’s to drinking more water and getting healthier skin.
